MLB Plays & Stacks (July 29th)

MLB Stacks & Plays from CheatSheetPros!

QUICK NEWS AND NOTES:

I’m doing the first article of MLB today. Typically I don’t dabble into MLB DFS until I can start pulling in some good 2020 stats for the individual players. But with a short season I don’t have much time to spare! So let’s look at some sneaky stacks today.

KANSAS CITY ROYALS – If you have ever followed my articles you know that I live in KC. I’m a big Chiefs fan and also a Royals fan. KC is only projected at 4.7 runs tonight so they are not “the chalk”. They are scoring 6.3 runs per game over the last 3 and have put up some big nights. Tonight they face the tough LHP Matthew Boyd who supports a solid 11.9 K/9 ratio and allowing a .263 average. However, KC crushes LHP. They usually would face Chris Sale and slap him around at least once a year. Matthew Boyd is a solid pitcher but if he comes out of the game you are looking at a DET bullpen giving up an xFIP of 4.85 and a low 7.7 K9 rate. Whit Merrifield is hitting .513 off Boyd through 39 Abs, Perez is hitting .321 through 28 Abs. This is also a CHEAP STACK! The 5 highest priced guys will come in at an average of 3,340 per player and my top 5 man stack around 2,800 per player. The projected 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 – 9 would be my optimal stack on our cheatsheet. Mondesi I would avoid as he is 3 for 19 with 6 Ks vs. Boyd and has a low .190 wOBA vs. LHP. As a team with all BVP numbers combined they are hitting .339 off Boyd.

TAMPA BAY RAYS – They are projected at only 4.1 runs tonight so they definitely will not be on the “chalky” side of stacks. The reason I like Tampa is they are scoring 8.3 runs per game across their last 3 and rank #3 in power rankings through this short start to the 2020 season. They face Mike Soroka who has a weak 7.0 K9 rate last year and allowing a .272 average. However, his home/road splits are what jumped out at me on the cheatsheet. Now on the road he was superior allowing a low .239 average, 1.07 whip and an ERA of 1.86. But he is not on the road tonight and he is at HOME. At Home he allowing a .306 batting average across 51.1 innings with a 5.26 ERA and 1.46 whip. Mix the bad split with the red hot Rays and might see some fireworks.

MINNESOTA TWINS – Yes they will be chalky projected at 5.6 runs tonight. They are putting up 7.6 runs per game across the last 3 and rank #1 in power rankings. They are facing off against Daniel Ponce De Leon. He is a solid pitcher and last year through around 40 innings he allowing a .217 average with a 3.92 ERA. He was better on the road at 2.57 (ERA) so I don’t mind the fade if you think they are going to be really chalky. The optimal stack on the cheatsheet here is the projected 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 hitters. Luis Arreaz, Donaldson, Polanco, Cruz and Jake Cave. This stack is CHEAP coming in at an average of only 3,620 per player! Tough matchup but red hot hitters and priced down!

SAN DIEGO PADRES – Projected at 4.6 runs tonight and ranking #2 in the power rankings they are hitting a horrible .191 as a team but scoring 4.7 runs per game over the last 3. They face Johnny Cueto tonight and hit 8.7% swinging strike rate. That is really low incase you are wondering. Cueto didn’t get a lot of innings last year but he is decent and the bullpen ranks 25th when he comes out of the game. Wil Myers is only 3 for 22 against Cueto with 6 Ks so he sucks. But Tatis Jr. is red hot right now and has put up a massive 18, 17, 10, 9 and 11 DK points in his last 5. Solid! Eric Hosmer is another guy I’d look at. He is only 2 for 6 on Cueto but he is only 3,500 on DK and is putting up 16 DK PPG right now. The other kicker is that Hosmer is a LHH and Cueto struggles vs. LHH giving up a .280 average last year in his short appearance of innings.

LOS ANGELES ANGELS – Projected at 5.3 runs tonight they face Justin Dunn and the 26th ranked bullpen behind him. They are scoring 4.7 runs per game across the last 3 and the top 3 hitters in the lineup have been on fire. This one is going to cost you anywhere from 4,200 – 4,800 depending on your stack choice but I mean Trout is 6,200 and Rendon 5,400.

Thanks for reading and good luck!
